Rolex DateJust Ref 1630

Here is something you do not normally see. An ultra rare 1976 #Rolex #Datejust Automatic Reference 1630 Known as the Pre-Oysterquartz. Oysterquartz body with an automatic movement.

An estimated 500 were built and put into the market without any fanfare to get potential customers reaction. Many who saw the watch thought it was going to be the new styled Datejust instead it was going to be the new #Oysterquartz.

The difference between and 1630 and a 17013 besides the stadium ring around the dial is the center link in the #jubilee bracelet is gold while the Oysterquartz jubilee bracelet had a stainless steel center link. This particular 1630 is finished in #14k and stainless.

A very cool piece of history. The Oysterquartz was eventually discontinued in 2001 when it last appeared in the Rolex catalog.

A new Quartz movement was being developed at the time but Rolex killed the project for good. #watchoftheday #watchonmywrist #vontagetolex #rolexwatches #rolexquartz #rarerolex #rolexdatejust #best_of_nyc #houston #rolexwrist #mensfashion #gentlemanstyle #luxurywatches #rarewatches

A Rolex of Firsts

The iconic two-tone Rolex Datejust. It’s always been the gentlemans watch in the Rolex line. First debuted in 1945 and the first self-winding Rolex with an automatic date feature. Rolex was also first with the two-tone model and the correct name for this feature is Rolesor which was patented in 1933. In 1986 Rolex saw […]
